Taiwan Summer Never Ends

Here I am in Taichung. Out for a bike ride, up to One Hotel area. Temperature at noon was very hot in the sun, about 24 degrees with a slight breeze. After our errand, we went to grocery store to buy vegetables, and had lunch at home, noodles and chicken.
Later in the afternoon we did some potting of flowers in the front. Still not finished.

At home, in southern Ontario, it's -1C, feels like -10C, there is snow off the lakes. And a winter weather warning on the weather network....

Feng Le Sculpture Park, Taichung

With more than 50 sculptures and a small lake, Feng Le is a popular park. We went early in the morning when it was not crowded. Fed the fish in the lake. At turtle and some ducks also arrived for the feast.

Feng Le Sculpture Park is located at intersection of XiangXin (HsiangHsin) South and WenXin (WenShin) South 5th roads and is easiest reached via WenXin South Road.

Then went to A-Mart for lunch. This is a department store similar to Home Depot and Zellers.

ISS

On Friday, I went to a star party in N.F. Saw all four moons of Jupiter. The International Space Station also put in an appearance for two minutes, rising out of the west and going behind the earth's shadow as it approached the southern horizon.

Taiwan Typhoon

It's now a month and a half since we returned from a four-week stay in Taiwan. I miss the hot, humid weather there and the after-dark walks through the streets, still warm enough to walk around in shirt sleeves.

We've had nice weather here in Ontario, but only today (Sunday) has the temperatures and humidity reached anything near Taiwan weather conditions. And for the first time this summer we've turned on the central air conditioner. However, I would not want to experience what southern Taiwan is getting now. The high-speed trains can go no further than Taichung.

Thames Grove Conservation Area

This conservation area is on the Thames River in Chatham, Ontario. Inside the park is a plaque, "The Thames River", erected in 2000 by the Kent Military Re-inactment Society and the Kent Historical Society, funded by the Millenium Project.

The Thames River also goes through the center of downtown Chatham where there are murals and other plaques, one for the Shawnee Chief Tecumseh.

Travis and Dan

Dan Akroyd
born: 1952, Ottawa
occupation: comic
At the Liquor Store in Niagara-on-the-Lake, I was showing the Niagara wines to a friend and discovered Dan Ackroyd in basket--well, not Dan himself, but his wine:
Cabernet Shiraz.
http://www.danaykroydwines.com/
I wish I could give a review of this wine, but I did not buy a bottle. We plan to attend the Grape and Wine Festival concert in St. Catharines tomorrow; if Dan's there hocking his vino I plan to ask for a sample. Saiz Simple Simon.
The Wheat Kings are playing, a tribute band for the Tragically Hip.

Travis Barker
born: 1975
from California
occupation: drummer
I discovered a hip video on YouTube: Travis Barker Remix Soulja Boy "Crank That". Barker was in a Learjet crash this week. The jet skidded off the runway and burst into flames. Blink-182 drummer Barker and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) survived the crash but four died in the accident.
